Farmington High School holds the distinction of being the highest ranked high school in Connecticut in Newsweek's 2005 poll, ranked #126. These rankings are based largely on the number of AP exams taken in comparison with the number of graduating seniors. This year, nearly 900 AP exams will be taken by 375 students, according to district statistics. Farmington High School offers over a dozen AP classes. During the past year, the girls basketball team was almost very successful, losing at the buzzer at the State championships. From 1994 to present, FHS has won state championships in Soccer (Mens- '94,'96,'01) (Womens- '03, '05), Ice Hockey, Field Hockey, and Swimming. Many student athletes have gone on to play in college as well. The school's FIRST Robotics team, known as team 178 or the Enforcers, won the Engineering Inspiration Award at both the UTC New England Regional and the Greater Toronto Regional in 2006, and again at the UTC Regional in 2007. In April 2007, they won it on an international basis at the FIRST Championship Event in Atlanta. This award, the second highest available at competitions, was won primarily due to the team's innovative Dream FIRST program, which seeks to encourage children to pursue interests in fields of science and engineering. Principal Kevin Ryan has announced he will be leaving Farmington High School to take the job as the assistant superintendent in Milford. Assistant Principal Curt Pandicio, who filled in for Ryan when he was out due to health issues for much of last year will replace him as Interim Principal until a replacement is found. The school district expects to have a new principal by January 2008 or July 2008. FHS's student Jenah Doucette makes it onto the America's Next Top Model show! EXTERNAL LINKS |
