Fairfield Ludlowe High School (FLHS) is a Co-educational Secondary School located in Fairfield, Connecticut , United States .

ORIGINS

FLHS was reopened as a high school in fall 2003 because of overcrowding at Fairfield's one existing high school, now called Fairfield Warde High School . There was a small controversy concerning what the name of the new school would be. Many wished to bring back Roger Ludlowe High School, which occupied the same building and was closed in 1987. The school was originally opened as "Fairfield High School at the Ludlowe Site," as a satellite campus of Fairfield High School housing 9th and 10th grades. The Board of Education then decided that it would be called Fairfield High School South, while the existing high school would be called Fairfield High School East. This caused quite an uproar, because east and south are obviously not opposites. The Board claimed that they voted this way to minimize rivalry between the schools. Several months later, after much persuasion, the Board took another vote. They decided to call the two schools Fairfield Ludlowe and Fairfield Warde, keeping the names from before the 1987 consolidation but also maintaining the reputation of the Fairfield name. There now exists a healthy rivalry between the two schools. The "first class" of FLHS graduated in June 2006 and the first class to attend all four years at the high school will graduate in June 2007.

Overview

There are over 50 extra-curricular activities at Ludlowe. Students are encouraged to collaborate for student activities, whether or not they're educational. The weekly schedule is set up so that every Tuesday there are 20 minutes set aside in the beginning of the day to accommodate all the clubs that have to meet. This is separated into alternating 'A' and 'B' weeks. Most clubs meet during one of these two times, but some may also/exclusively meet after school. This is often referred to as an 'E' club or an 'X' club.

Homework Helpers

The homework helpers club was established in October of 2006 by junior Antonio Doukas. The club meets every week, although it is officially a 'B' week club, and attendance is not required. Member demographics range from sophomore to senior, although academically exceptional freshmen may join if they so choose. The average number of active members is fifteen. The goal of the homework helpers is to allow students who are excelling to lend a hand to those who may be falling back. Membership is not partial, a tutor who may excel in mathematics but at the same time fall back in English can still join. Although the members of , and the vice president is Tommy Silk.

The Prospect

The Prospect is Fairfield Ludlowe High School's school newspaper. It was founded in 2003 by editor-in-chief Grant Hatchimonji and advisor Christopher Siano. The current advisor is Linda McDonough. The Prospect meets every "A" week and represents the voice of the student body at Fairfield Ludlowe High School. Starting in the fall 2006, it became the mission of The Prospect to produce one issue a month from October through May each school year. The Prospect welcomes students to submit letters and articles on a variety of topics.
