Ethnic Conflict In Nagaland

The ethnic conflict in Nagaland is an ethnic conflict, ongoing since 1993 , fought between the Nagas and the Kukis .
Initially it first started in Manipur between the Thankhuls, (who wanted to overthrow/drive away the Kukis living in Ukhrul district of Manipur) and Kukis in Mainpur. It was initially a Tangkhul-Kuki conflict. when on the verge of defeat, the Tangkhul started the Naga-Kuki conflict propaganda. Thats how it spread over to Nagaland. It is not correct to say it a Naga-Kuki conflict, rather it is a Tangkhul-Kuki conflict.
Participating are several Rebel Groups , the "National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Isak-Muivah)" aiming for a Christian religious state based on Maoism , the "National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Khaplang)", aiming for the establishment of an independent "greater Nagaland", and the "Naga National Council (Adino)".

First insurgencies occurred in the early 1950s . They subsided or repressed in the early 1980s. In 1993, violence re-erupted between the Nagas and the Kukis
