Douglas Academy is a secondary school on the Mains Estate in Milngavie in the outskirts of Glasgow . In 2001, Douglas Academy was Scotland's top performing state school with 31% of students gaining Five or more Highers .2

The school is named after the Douglas Family , who were the previous owners of the estate and donated the land for educational purposes. It is built on the site where the gardens were originally situated, and rare plants can still be found there today. The school was opened on 2 November 1967 .
