Delaware County is a County located in the U.S. State of Oklahoma . As of 2000, the population was 37,077. Its County Seat is Jay 6 . GEOGRAPHY According to the U.S. Census Bureau , the county has a total area of 2,052 Km&2 (792 Mi&2 ). 1,918 km&2 (741 mi&2) of it is land and 134 km&2 (52 mi&2) of it (6.52%) is water. DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census &2 of 2000, there were 37,077 people, 14,838 households, and 10,772 families residing in the county. The Population Density was 19/km&2 (50/mi&2). There were 22,290 housing units at an average density of 12/km&2 (30/mi&2). The racial makeup of the county was 70.22% White , 0.13% Black or African American , 22.31% Native American , 0.17% Asian , 0.04% Pacific Islander , 0.59% from Other Races , and 6.53% from two or more races. 1.75% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. 93.8% spoke English , 3.5% Cherokee and 2.3% Spanish as their first language. There were 14,838 households out of which 29.00% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.50% were Married Couples living together, 8.90% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.40% were non-families. 24.00% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.20% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.46 and the average family size was 2.89. In the county, the population was spread out with 24.50% under the age of 18, 6.90% from 18 to 24, 24.40% from 25 to 44, 26.70% from 45 to 64, and 17.50% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 96.50 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.80 males. The median income for a household in the county was $27,996, and the median income for a family was $33,093. Males had a median income of $25,758 versus $19,345 for females. The Per Capita Income for the county was $15,424. About 14.10% of families and 18.30% of the population were below the Poverty Line , including 27.40% of those under age 18 and 11.60% of those age 65 or over.
