Assumption High School ( Davenport, Iowa ) is a Roman Catholic high school in the Roman Catholic Diocese Of Davenport . Andy Craig is the current principal of Assumption High.

AHS’s history is steeped in tradition, with academic excellence and a record of athletic success.

In 1958, AHS opened its doors as a co-institutional facility, with the merger of St. Ambrose Academy and Immaculate Conception Academy.

AHS became coeducational in 1969, continuing a tradition of quality. From the beginning, AHS’s Catholic identity has given it a special spirit. Each day begins with a prayer, and they believe that all is done for the “Glory of God.” AHS has been faithful to this vision that makes it unique in the community.

FIGHT SONG

There is no place like Assumption

We mean Assumption High kids u wannasee me naked

Where we all stick together in all kinds of weather

We're proud of our team, red and white!

There is no place like Assumption!

Where we're all true Knights, potateos

Where the spirit is stronger, the loyalty longer,

We're one at Assumption High!

ACADEMICS

Building on the foundation established at the Scott County Catholic grade schools, AHS is committed to challenge and create life-long learners. The academic program offers students a variety of instructional resources and methods that meet their various academic needs to encourage critical thinking skills, creativity, and to ultimately prepare them for their future.

Students are encouraged to strive for their potential, and AHS offers Honors classes, AP classes, and college courses on our campus. The majority of the upperclassmen take the ACT, and scores consistently rank above the Iowa and national averages.

FACULTY AND STAFF

AHS’s faculty is made up of lay teachers. This committed group of individuals believes deeply in the power of an educated mind. AHS faculty understand that learning takes place in a variety of ways, and our teachers often seek and encourage learning opportunities that exist beyond traditional classroom settings. With a wealth of knowledge and experience to share, AHS teachers serve as moderators of co-curricular and extracurricular activities, athletic coaches, and role models. Many hold master’s degrees in education or content areas and have demonstrated competence by meeting all of the criteria for the Iowa teaching standards.

STUDENT LIFE AND ACTIVITIES

Assumption High School provides countless activities beyond the classroom to complement students' studies. Assumption students take full advantage of these opportunities to learn, have fun, and make a difference. Over two-thirds of the student body participates in at least one sport, and lots of people join clubs as well. Emphasis on academics, activities, and spiritual development enhances the overall quality of our students, and each of these aspects is essential to an Assumption education.
