Curtis Corner Middle School, commonly referred to '''CCMS''' is a Public Middle School located in Wakefield, Rhode Island Their Mascot is the Curtis Corner Cougar. CLASSES CCMS is a relatively moderate performing school with decent marks. It teaches grades 6, 7, and 8. CCMS teaches the Mandatory core classes: Science, Social Studies, English, and Math. From the core subjects CCMS also teachs Physical Education, Health, and Reading, a new form of English which teaches note taking strategies and skills. CCMS also teaches 5 electives, which include Computer Literacy, Techology Education, Family and Consumer Science, World Languages, and Music Appreciations. Each student has 2 of these classes randomly chosen for them every semester. CCMS also provides 3 music classes that are optional and replace 1 elective class, and are taken throught the entire year. These classes are Band, which teaches students how to play traditional instruments including Snare Drums, Saxophones, Trumpets, Clarinets, Flutes, and many others. Another music class is Orchestra, which teaches students how to play string instruments like the Violin, Viola, and Cello. The last music class is Chorus, which teaches students how to project their voices and how to sing. GRADES CCMS has 3 grades, 6th, 7th, and 8th. However, due to large size each grade is broken into 2 teams. Each team is based on an Aquatic Animal The Sting Rays are the first 6th grade team, and have 3 teachers teaching 4 subjects. The Marlins is the second 6th grade team and have 4 teachers. The Dolphins is the first 7th grade team with 4 teachers. They compete in an annual Soccer and Basketball tournament held by the Physical Education teachers against the Barracudas, the other 7th grade team. The Barracudas are the second 7th grade teach with 4 teachers. They compete in an annual Soccer and Basketball tournament held by the Physical Education teachers against the Dolphins, the other 7th grade team. The Orcas are the first 8th grade team. They are rivaled with the Manta Rays in different sports every year, usually either Flag Football or Basketball.also know as by the manta rays as the team with mean teachers. The Manta Rays are the second 8th grade team with 4 teachers. They are rivaled with the Orcas in different sports every year, usually either Flag Football or Basketball. The Manta Rays are known by the Orcas as "Manta Gays". The previous term started with the graduating class of '04. |
