ATHLETICS

Girls' Tennis

Although the Girls' Tennis team is not very successful now, the Lady Tigers won the first and only state championship for Conway High School.

Football

The school's football program has been one of the most successful programs in South Carolina. From 2001-2003, the Tigers played in three consecutive South Carolina Class AAAA-Division II State Championship games, losing in all three trips. In 2006, the Tigers once again reached the State Championship game, only to lose once again. The head coach is Chuck Jordan, who has held the position since 1983 and also serves as the school's athletic director. The Tigers play at the E. Craig Wall, Jr. Memorial Stadium, better known as "The Backyard". The stadium opened in 2000.

Soccer

The Boys' Soccer Team is not one of the most successful in the state as is the football team. But they seem to be very competitive and are starting to challenge for the playoffs year after year. The team is run by David Covington who played for the Manchester United first team before suffering a career ending knee injury.

HISTORY

In 1971 there was a merger between Conway High School and Whittemore Park High School, the African-American school. Conway's colors were green and orange and Whittemore's were purple and gold. The schools elcted to make the colors of present day Conway High School green and gold and keep the mascot as the tiger, not the Whittemore bulldog. The school has since had notable academic achievements such as the Palmetto Gold and Silver award and being rated "Excellent"
on the state report card.
