MISSION STATEMENT Connecticut River Transit, Inc. coordinates public transportation services among public transit, human services providers, community volunteers, employers, and the traveling public to create a seamless and integrated public transit system that will serve the public, support the economy, and provide connectivity in the most efficient and cost-effective manner. HISTORY CRT was established in November, 2003, and is a private non-profit public transportation company now providing about 140,000 trips annually in Windham and Southern Windsor Counties, Vermont. Funds of over $2 million are channeled into the local economy. Contributions come from towns, hospitals, state departments, businesses and individuals; contributions leverage matching committed government awards from the Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans), the Federal Transit Administration, Medicaid, and area human service agencies. In 2004, VTrans selected CRT and one other transportation provider in Vermont to develop innovative collaborative policies and procedures to ensure that all services are open to the general public, and are carefully designed and managed to meet the needs of residents and visitors including employees, job seekers, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities, in the most flexible and cost-effective manner. CRT actively and successfully implements coordinated transit initiatives under the VTrans program.
