Information AboutCoaching Ourselves |
|
Coaching Ourselves is a management and leadership learning approach for practicing managers. Self directed groups of 4-6 people meet on weekly or bi-weekly basis for 60 - 90 minutes to learn about management & leadership at the time and place of their choosing. There are no teachers, consultants, trainers or coaches required. The learning material is specially adapted for this approach. It introduces and explores a management concept or subject as described by a management thinker. During sessions participants read through the material together sharing related recent management experiences. Coaching Ourselves sessions have exercises that take advantage of a group learning together. Participants interact with one another during the exercises, for example sharing their thoughts on each others recent management actions/decisions in context of a specific model on management style, or short interviews of colleagues within their office to examine their own corporate culture. The discussions and exercises are directly related to the participants job. They discuss and work through current real issues and events, unlike case studies which are focused solely on the recorded experiences of others. This process is similar to Action Learning in that real issues are resolved by a group in a learning environment. However, this is different in that the discussion and exercises are inspired by a management topic and the focus is on learning about management, through the material, through the discussions and through the exercises.
