The Christian Alliance International School (CAIS) (previously called "Christian Alliance International College") is an Elementary / Secondary Christian school that is based in Hong Kong and runs on a unique Canadian curriculum. The school is non-profit and is owned and operated by the Kowloon Tong Church of the Chinese Christian and Missionary Alliance (KTAC). The school requires all students to speak English . HISTORY CAIS began operation in September 1992 with about 40 students ranging from grade 7-11. G.12 was created the following year and increased enrollment to about 90 students. Grades 1 to 6 joined the school in 1995 and, in 1996, a Kindergarten was added. Christian Alliance International School (CAIS) is a high quality Hong Kong based international school with a unique Christian character. Amongst the schools in Hong Kong this Canadian curriculum Christian international school excels in providing a high quality academic program in a Christian school environment. Academic excellence is promoted and development of the unique abilities of students is facilitated. In addition, this international school attempts to build into each student a strong and deep Christian character. ENROLLMENT CAIS accommodates an enrollment of approximately 475 students from more than 20 different countries and is represented by a diverse mix of cultural, ethnic, and religious backgrounds. FACILITIES The school has around 24 different classrooms and facilities including a Dance room, Home Economics Laboratory, Library and Resource centre, Computer laboratory, 2 Science Laboratories, a Band room (Also used for practicing), Music room and a Visual arts room. The school also has a Chapel where students gather together once every week. ACADEMIC CAIS provides a number of locally developed curricula and specialized programs including Band, Dance, French/Mandarin, Music/Drama, Visual Arts, Information Technology Education, Domestic Science, Accelerated Reader, Special Education, and Advanced Placement Courses. ACTIVITIES Sports The school's main sport is Basketball . The teams are fairly strong and achieve enough points to get to the playoffs every year. They have won a few championships in swimming, basketball, soccer, and other sports. Music The school has a grade 5-12 band. The students perform in various concerts, and compete as well. The band often gets good marks in their ratings and does well in comparison with other schools. Battle of the Books Battle of the Books, is a program that encourages reading by all students at the primary and middle school levels, originated from a public radio program in the 1940s and was introduced to North Carolina libraries in the USA in 1981. Mr. Bryant McEntire (CAIS, but now in French International School) brought the idea to Hong Kong when he was in CAIS in August 2000. Since its introduction, enthusiasm has spread from school-wide battles to city wide battles. Over 7 Hong Kong international schools with over 240 students formally participated in the program with many others enthusiastically reading the lists for pleasure. WORLD MATHS DAY Christian Alliance International School ranked 1st place in the most questions answered during World Maths Day. A class in CAIS, 6V, ranked 1st place of all classes that participated. Stefan Lam, a student in CAIS gained international recognition by becoming the #1 individual in all students who participated. EXTERNAL LINKS |
