Canadian Amateur Hockey League

HISTORY

Founding

The annual meeting of the Amateur Hockey Association Of Canada was held at Montreal on December 10, 1898, where was reported as 'a cataclysm in the hockey world'Coleman, Charles. ''The Trail of the Stanley Cup'', pg. 45

At the previous year's meeting the application of the Ottawa Capitals to join was declined. This year, the executive voted to admit the Capitals. This led to the representatives of the Quebec, Montreal Victoria and Ottawa clubs to withdraw from the association. The representative of the Montreal Hockey Club asked the council to reconsider, where they declined, and Montreal also withdrew.

The withdrawing teams then formed the CAHL at a meeting at the Windsor Hotel the same day. They adopted the constitution of the AHAC.
