This school-related article is related to . This article has been tagged since December 2006. } Burlington High School is located in the city of Burlington in the U.S. State of Kansas . It occupies the westernmost building in the northern education complex on the outer edge of the city limits. It is the only high school in the USD 244 school district. HISTORY In 1996, a courtyard and gazebo in the center of the facility was enclosed and converted to computer technology labs. In 2005, an addition was made to the athletics portion of the campus by adding Baseball and Softball diamonds, so the team could play closer to the school. In 2007, an addition was made to the athletics portion of the campus by adding a wrestling room so the team could have a bigger facility to practice in. STUDENTS Burlington High School is one of the largest 3A schools in the state of Kansas with a student population of 297. Student Population This occurred in 2003 after several large classes graduated without adequate replacements in the younger classes, dropping the district from 4A classification. FACULTY There are around 45 faculty members, 26 of which are teachers at Burlington High. Notable members include Principal Jim Kuhn, Vice Principal and Activities Director Dallas Scothorn. EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES The mascot of Burlington High is the Wildcats . They participate in many sports including: football, wrestling, cross country, basketball, baseball, softball, track, golf, and volleyball. We also have Scholar's Bowl, Drama, Forensics, Band, and Vocal. They have had success over the years in these events; having many students go on to have excellent college careers. The basketball teams won the 2000 Kansas State Girls Basketball Championship, and the 2004 Kansas State Boys Basketball Championships with multiple showings in the tournament over the years. CURRICULUM USD 244 has the basic high school schedule including seven hours. The first class starts off the day's schedule at 8:14, and is followed by the shorter 25 minute homeroom for all students. The rest of the day varies for each student depending on their classes. However, most take six more courses, in addition to the first one, throughout the remainder of the school time. There is of course one break for the students to have lunch, this occurs during the third-fourth or fourth-fifth courses switches depending on the student's schedule.
