It is situated at the south end of Chauncey Road where Bear Creek enters the Grand River . The community was established in 1848, and became a postal village since it was the site of a flouring mill, Imperial Mills , which was destroyed by fire in 1875 and rebuilt in 1881. The water driven mill remained in operation for local grinding needs until the early 1970s. The settlement presumably takes its name from the impressive river bluff, Buena Vista Hill, rising just to its east, the summit of which affords a magnificent view of the westward bend of the Grand Valley, Kuttshill, and the many Plainfield Hills. |
