Information AboutBrowsershots |
Browsershots is a website allowing visitors to enter a URL pointing to a web page and obtain screenshots of that page from several different browsers. The process, while in many cases requiring several hours for a response, provides an easy method to testing website design in an array of browsers, both new and old, on several different operating systems. HOW IT WORKS Browsershots is supported by a number of common Desktop PCs or servers which automatically produce Screen-shots . These screenshots are then sent to the central server where they are sorted by request but still can be seen in public. The so-called "shotfactories" which provide the screen-shots are run by volunteers who let a small software-package use the idle time of their Home-PCs. This makes quality assurance difficult as anybody with a broadband internet-access can take part, but on the other hand with an increasing number of participants the response time of browsershots is hoped to be reduced significantly in the future.
