BELMONT NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION

In 2003 , the Belmont Neighborhood Association was created. This is the second version of an association that existed in between 1982 and 1986, albeit with larger boundaries. {Link without Title} . A group of area residents decided to form this new group after years of not having their concerns - noise, traffic, too many bars (60+) and other quality of life issues be ignored by the Lower Greenville Neighborhood Association.
The issue of overlapping boundaries and not being recognized by the parent group of many Dallas neighborhood associations - The Dallas Homeowners League - are slowly being torn away.
In early 2007, the BNA was given the theatre marquee for the burned-out Arcadia Theatre. The marquee was sold to a local art museum and law firm, which was rededicated in late March 2007. The money - $7,500 plus $800 raised through a raffle and a $500 donation from a local business - will be used for crimewatch and community activities in the BNA area.
The BNA was recently approved by the IRS as a Non-Profit 501(c)4 (donations are not tax-deductible).

BELMONT ADDITION CONSERVATION DISTRICT

In 2004 , the Belmont Addition Conservation District was formed, under the City of Dallas Ordinances , with the intent of preserving the unique character of the neighborhood. This was in response to the growing number of "teardown" properties where developers and builders bulldozed vintage homes in order to put up new ones in old neighborhoods. Often, the style of the new homes were completely out of character with the existing neighborhoods prompting labels of "McMansions" or "Starter Mansions".
