Located at Kilometre 1,934 (historical mile 1202) of the Alaska Highway , close to the Alaska -Yukon border, it is Canada's westernmost community. The community's main employers are a Canada Customs post, the White River First Nation and a number of tourist lodges. Beaver Creek has a population of approximately 100 individuals and is the home of the White River First Nation . The First Nation is made up of Upper Tanana speaking people whose traditional territory extends from the Donjek River into neighbouring Alaska, and Athapaskan Northern Tutchone speaking people whose traditional territories included the lower Stewart River and the area south of the Yukon River on the White and Donjek River drainages. In addition to the Alaska Highway, the community is served by the Beaver Creek Airport . CLIMATE Like most of the Yukon, Beaver Creek has a Subarctic Climate . It is situated at an elevation of approximately 762 metres (2500 feet). Beaver Creek experiences annual temperature average daily highs of 20 °C in July and average daily lows of −32 °C in January. Record high temperature was 35 °C in September 2000 and the lowest was around −60.0 °C (−76.0 °F) in January 1981. Beaver Creek has an average annual snowfall of 123 cm (48.5 in) and 296 mm (11.7 in) of rainfall. The Airstrip at Snag , 25 kilometres east of Beaver Creek, experienced the lowest ever Temperature measured in North America, −63.0 °C (−81.4 °F) on February 3 , 1947 .
