SHORT HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL

The Bangladesh International School Dammam started in 1986 by the grace of Almighty and by the dedicated efforts of the many members of the Bangladeshi Community living in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. Thanks to then Ambassador of Bangladesh, H.E. Hedayet Ahmed whose help and official patronage enabled a formal letter to start the school as an integral part of education and the cultural wing of Bangladesh Embassy in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

BISD is located at Dammam, the capital city of Eastern Province of Kingdom Of Saudi Arabia .

MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION

The medium of instruction in the school is English. Bengali and Arabic are also taught as compulsory subjects.

Sections

BISD is mainly divided into two section.

1. The school section.(Grade KG-1 to Grade-X)

2. The college section.(Grade XI to Grade-XII)


Course Curriculum


BISD follows University of Cambridge Local Examination Syndicate for its course structure.
Students appear for their "O" level exam after completing Grade-X under University of Cambridge Local Examination Syndicate and "A" level exam after completing Grade-XII under University of Cambridge Local Examination Syndicate. Both of the exam takes place with the supervision of British Council situated in Eastern Province.


ACADEMIC YEAR

The Academic year starts from January and ends in December.


SEMESTER

The Academic session is divided into two semester namely 1st semester and 2nd semester. The contents of the syllabus are divided equally over two Semester.


ADMISSION POLICY

a) Students other than Bangladeshi National are allowed to get admission at the beginning of a session only, provided permission is obtained for them from International School wing, Ministry of Education, Riyadh.

b) Minimum age for admission is 4 years in kg-1 class. Admission to other classes should be in the same order, so that the child completes 15 years of age when he/she is in class (x).

c) Application in the prescribed form are to be submitted by the middle of November each year for registration.

d) Admission test shall be held in Mid-December as shown in the Academic Calendar.

e) Admission in a particular class is confirmed on the basis of admission test.

f) The standard of the Admission Test is of the level of the annual examination of the class preceding that, to which admission is sought.

g) Admission are kept open to the Bangladeshi Students throughout the year. Any Bangladeshi student seeking admission during the First semester shall have to pay all the charges together with the tuition fee up to the month of admission from January. Similarly any Bangladeshi student seeking admission in the Second semester have to pay all the charges together with the tuition fee up to the month of admission from July.

h) Any Bangladeshi or other National who was transferred from any of the Bangladesh International Schools (English Medium) has to pay the tuition fee from the month of admission only.


EXAMINATIONS

The students are to appear at four examination during an Academic Year namely,

1. First Unit Test of 25 marks in each subject.

2. Half Yearly Examination of 75 marks in each subject.

3. Second Unit Test of 25 marks in each subject.

4. Final examination of 75 marks in each subject.


GRADING AND PROMOTION

The final assessment for grading will be based on the performance in all four examination in aggregate.

Students carrying 50% marks on average are eligible for promotion. This can be revised according to recommendation. If any student fails to appear in any examination due to some genuine reason, the students may be promoted depending on the performance of the previous examination.


SCHOOL FACILITY


Laboratories

There are separate Physics, Chemistry and Biology laboratories and all of them are well equipped. These laboratories are authorized by British Council under the regulation issued by University of Cambridge Local Examination Syndicate.


Computer Room

There is a Computer Room in the School building for teaching.


Library

The students spend a lot of their time at BISD Library. The library holds many books and it is well furnished with modern furniture. The library is constantly upgraded with new books and daily Newspapers.


Sports

Arrangements for games and sports are usually in accordance to the preferences of the students. Annual sports days are arranged by the school authority. There is also facility for indoor sports and a ground front of school (within the school premises). Students take advantage of these sports facilities for their recreation during break time. Although the students emphasis academics over sports, they dedicate one day a year for out-of-shape kids to play around for a couple of hours. The cricket and soccer team are improving widely while participating in inter school tournaments.


CULTURAL ACTIVITY

BISD arranges different cultural activity annually for the different occasions in a calendar year. BISD also arranges annual cultural programme for one week, usually in the second semester.
