As Above, So Below

Hermes Trismegistus 's axiom, "As Above, So Below" is a key metaphysical concept that is captured in various forms in addition to Hermes' Emerald Tablet .

These words circulate throughout occult and magical circles, and they come from Hermetic texts. The concept was first laid out in ''The Emerald Tablet of Hermes Trismegistus'', in the words "That which is Below corresponds to that which is Above, and that which is Above, corresponds to that which is Below, to accomplish the miracles of the One Thing."(Scully p. 321)

In accordance with the various levels of reality: physical, mental, and spiritual, this relates that what happens on any level happens on every other. This is however more often used in the sense of the Microcosm And The Macrocosm . The microcosm is oneself, and the macrocosm is the universe. The macrocosm is as the microcosm, and vice versa; within each lies the other, and through understanding one (usually the microcosm) you can understand the other.(Garstin p. 35)

ROCK MUSIC LYRICAL USAGE

The American Doom Metal band Neurosis makes direct reference to this idea in their song "Locust Star" from the album '' Through Silver In Blood ''

The Polish extreme metal band Behemoth recorded the song "As Above, So Below" for their album '' Zos Kia Cultus ''

"As Above, So Below" is also the name of a song on the Mercury Music Prize -nominated album '' Myths Of The Near Future '' by the English band Klaxons

"As Above, So Below" is also the name of a song on the album '' Tom Tom Club '' by the American band Tom Tom Club .

The Avant-garde Metal band Mr Bungle recorded the song "Merry Go Bye Bye" from the album '' Disco Volante '' which features growled vocals "As Above, So Below" half-way through the song.

In Billy Bragg 's "Valentine's Day Is Over," he sings "as above so below there is no love."

Tool uses the line "As below, so above and beyond I imagine." in the song Lateralus .

"As above, so below." is stated in the Probot song "The Emerald Law."

The Swedish Black Metal band Watain features the line "For as above - so below", in their song "Legions of the Black Light" in the album Sworn To The Dark .
