The Arts Council of Ireland, or An Chomhairle Ealaíon in Irish, was founded by the Irish government in 1951 to encourage interest in Irish art and channel funding from the state to Irish artists and arts organisations. An Chomhairle Ealaíon was modelled on the Arts Council Of Great Britain , founded in 1946, and works closely with the Arts Council Of Northern Ireland , formed by the British government in Northern Ireland in 1962 to fulfil a similar role. Until that date the British Arts Council had operated in Northern Ireland. '' newspaper article, 18 December 2006. In 2007 the Council had a budget of € 80 million. REFERENCES EXTERNAL LINK |
