Arlington Home & Gardens is an Antebellum house, built between 1845-50, that features Greek Revival architecture dating from the 1840s. It is located on 6 acres in the heart of Old Elyton , the first county seat of Jefferson County, Alabama . The house was built by William S. Mudd, one of the founders of Birmingham . Arlington was the site where Union Troops planned the burning of the University Of Alabama . The house serves also as a decorative arts museum, featuring a collection of 19th-century furniture, textiles, silver, and paintings. Arlington has gardens and a restored garden room named the Tea Room that is used for private and club events such as weddings, meetings, and food-service events. The ashes of former mayor George G. Siebels, Jr. are interred at Arlington. EXTERNAL LINK
