''America’s Town Meeting of the Air'' was a public affairs discussion broadcast on radio from 1935 to 1956. It began as a 60-minute program May 30 , 1935 , on the Blue Network /ABC, Thursdays 9:30pm, and in 1941 continued in various time lengths and days: Thursdays 8:30pm (1942-47); Tuesdays 8:30pm (1947-49); Tuesdays 9pm (1950-54); Sundays 8pm (1955-56). George V. Denny Jr. was the moderator for debates on a wide variety of issues before a very vocal live audience which sometimes heckled the panelists. Guests over the years included Heywood Broun, Pearl Buck , Eddie Cantor, Irene Dunne, Will Durant, John Gunther, Langston Hughes , Julian Mason, Bill Mauldin , Eleanor Roosevelt, Carl Sandburg , Norman Thomas and Dorothy Thompson.
