Allyne L. Merrill





CAREER AT MIT

Merrill earned his S.B. in Physics in 1885 . He would play a key role in getting Samuel Cate Prescott enrolled in MIT in 1890 . At the time, Merrill was an instructor in Mechanism at MIT. He would be promoted to instructor in 1890, then assistant professor in 1903 and eventually rise to professor during his tenure. Merrill would be elected as faculty secretary in 1906 and serve until 1934. Merrill and Prescott would be part of the induction ceremony of Karl Taylor Compton as the new MIT President on June 6 , 1930 .

Merrill died on February 26, 1941.
