Alaska is a village in the province of Mashonaland West , Zimbabwe . It is located about 15 km west of Chinhoyi . According to the 1982 Population Census, the village had a population of 3,854. The village grew up around the old Alaska Mine which started mining Copper in 1959 . Although it is not in operation anymore other mines in the Makonde area still mine copper and the village is the centre for smelting and refining copper. |
