CANDIDATES


Democrats

  • Lucy Baxley , the Lieutenant Governor and former State Treasurer, won the June 6 Democratic primary with approximately 60% of the primary votes. She defeated Don Siegelman , former Governor & Lieutenant Governor, who conceded with approximately 35% of the primary votes. Other Democratic primary candidates Joe Copeland, Nathan Mathis, James Potts, Katherine Mack, and Harry Lyon all received less than 1% of votes.



Republicans

  • Bob Riley , the Incumbent Governor, won the June 6 Republican primary with approximately 65% of the primary votes. He defeated former Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore , who conceded with approximately 35% of the primary votes.



Others

  • Loretta Nall (Libertarian/Marijuana Party) - Founder, US Marijuana Party. She did not collect enough signatures through her petitioning efforts to appear on the ballot under Alabama's ballot access laws, and campaigned as a write-in candidate.

  • Nathan Mathis (Independent) - Ex-State Rep., Ex-Democrat & 2002 State Agriculture Commissioner Candidate

  • Michael A. Polemeni (Independent/Write-In) - Huntsville/Madison County Chapter President of Alabama Family Rights Association. Polemeni campaigned for shared parenting as the default custody arrangement in divorce cases.
