The African American World, broadcast by PBS in association with NPR , is a website that servers as a guide to African American history and culture. The site contains six sections: timeline, reference room, kids, classroom, community, and resources. The timeline extensively depicts five-hundred years of African American history. It consists of the early days and slavery, building democracy, civil rights era, and modern times. Many of the items listed on the timeline provide links to more information or radio broadcasts. Over 350 articles from the Encyclopedia Britannica can be searched and viewed from the reference room. Also, hundreds of media bits from NPR and PBS can provide insight and education into African American arts, history, politics, and lifestyles. A list of book and video recommendations provides further resources. Sending e-cards, playing games, and a meeting room for children are all included in the kids heading. This aspect of the website can provide excellent support to teachers that educate young people on the African American experience or to anyone who wants to further there black education.
