MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY See Also: ASMSU Michigan State 's Academic Assembly comprises one half of the ASMSU undergraduate student government, along with the Student Assembly . At MSU, the Academic Assembly has jurisdiction over academic affairs, and controls over thirty seats in the University Academic Governance System, making it theoretically more powerful than most student governments in the United States . It has in practice, though, been difficult to always fill all these seats, and in 2004 , the Academic Assembly opened up these seats to any interested undergraduates. The Academic Assembly has two representatives per college, like the U.S. Senate , plus a seat for select racial, ethnic, or progressive student groups. The ASMSU Academic Assembly has three officers and two staff members. The Chairperson, Internal Vice-Chairperson and External Vice-Chairperson are elected each April by the newly-elected representatives. The Assembly usually - but not always - votes its own members to leadership positions. The two staffers, replacing and splitting the former duties of the DUGBA , are hired by a Human Resources hiring Committee , and then approved by the Assembly. As of May 2006, the Academic Assembly is in its 15th session. Structure Below is the basic structure for the ASMSU Academic Assembly. For the entire organizational Flowchart , please see the article on ASMSU . PENNSYLVANIA STATE UNIVERSITY Penn State 's Academic Assembly is part of the University Student Government (USG).
