Widmer Brothers is an American Brewery founded in 1984 in Portland, Oregon by brothers Kurt and Rob Widmer. It is one of the largest Craft Brewer s in Oregon. DETAILS In 1986 the Widmer Brothers introduced their Hefeweizen to America and since then has gained much popularity throughout the states. It has become famous for their unique speciality brews. The extravagant Joe Casey is the company's most famous brewmeister, noted for sporting a bald head and Soul Patch . Some people have mistakenly mentioned that Budweiser owns Widmer; this is not true. In the late 90's, Anheuser-Busch bought a stake in the company, approximately 25%, which allowed for greater distribution. The company is still fully operated by Kurt and Rob Widmer. Another interesting note is that on the eastern seaboard, it can be difficult to find Widmer Hefeweizen, but it is possible. However, it is not brewed by Widmer, but rather by RedHook Brewing Company under license.
