'' is the fourth studio
Album by
American band
Boston , released in 1994. (See
1994 In Music ). ''Walk On'' is the first and only Boston album to lack
Brad Delp as
Vocalist . Delp was replaced by
Orion The Hunter singer
Fran Cosmo . Delp left the band in 1990 to join original Boston guitarist
Barry Goudreau in forming
RTZ . He returned to Boston for the Walk On tour and for the
Corporate America album.
The Walk On album peaked at #7 on The Billboard 200 and was certified Platinum (1 million copies sold) by the RIAA. However it was a drop off performance wise from earlier Boston albums. This may be due in part because of the following reasons:
- There was little record company support and promotion for Walk On.
- The album lacked Brad Delp's signature vocal sound, which is often linked with the 'classic' Boston sound.
- Music critics generally regarded the album as sub-par.
- The material on Walk On was considerably weaker than on previous efforts, with many songs having outside co-writers.
- Grunge and Gangsta Rap were dominating the charts at the time (despite the fact fellow classic rockers Pink Floyd and The Eagles each released #1 albums in 1994), and Arena Rock was considered to be outdated.
The Walk On tour ran from 1994-1995 in both the US and around the world, with both Delp and Cosmo on vocals.
The final eight pages of the album's booklet are titled "Walk On -- Against Violence and Cruelty" and are dedicated to preventing Domestic Abuse and Animal Crueltly, providing contact information of numerous organizations, including The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence and The Humane Society. The band would do similarly in their next album.
