Volodymyr Yavorivsky




Yavorivsky graduated from Odessa State University as a specialist on "Ukrainian language and literature". He worked as editor on local radio, newspaper reporter ("Zaporizka pravda", "Literaturna Ukraina", "Prapor Yunosti"), scriptwriter of Lviv television, literary consultant, referent of the Writer's Union Of Ukraine , department chief and deputy editor to "Vitchizna" Magazine.

In late 80-s of last century V.Yavorivsky began his active political career. He was people's deputy of the last USSR Supreme Soviet in 1989–1991, became one of the founders of People's Movement Of Ukraine .

Volodymyr Yavorivsky took active part in defending the rights of Chornobyl Accident victims.1

In the 4-th Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (2002-2006) Volodymyr Yavorivsky belonged to Our Ukraine fraction, in the 5-th Rada convocation - to Yulia Tymoshenko Electoral Bloc .

At present (2007), Yavorivsky combines parliamentary functions with position of the Writer's Union Of Ukraine Chairman.
