Information About

Vilimaina Davu

On the Netball court she was a veteran of approximately 90 international tests. After moving to New Zealand in 2000, she steadily improved her speed, timing, and intimidatory tactics to become a very tough, permanent fixture in the Kiwi defense line. In recent memory she has had more warnings from umpires than almost all other players in the netball arena for her deliberate pushing, holding, and intimidation of opposition, and for very open disagreement and dispute of umpiring decisions. Davu certainly will be remembered as one of the key faces making netball a far rougher sport. In part she brought netball into the wider sporting debate of whether elite athletes should be role models of exemplary sportsmanship, or simply do what they can get away with to win.

Davu recently retired from international netball and joined Fiji Netball as the Fiji Team's new Head Coach to prepare the team for the upcoming 2007 World Netball Championship , to be held in New Zealand in November.
