HISTORY The Urbana area was first settled in 1730. {Link without Title} Timeline of the Monocacy River area GROWTH The original Urbana community has been somewhat overshadowed by new developments, the Villages of Urbana and the Urbana Highlands. These developments (begun in 1999 ) have swelled Urbana's population and put strain on the community, especially the school system. A solution to this overcrowding issue was attempted by opening new schools, including Centerville Elementary.
