ESTABLISHMENT UCA was originally established in 1921 or 1922 (the exact year cannot be determined) as Yakima Valley Academy. When that original school closed due to lack of space, a Church Elder was immediately dispatched to find and purchase a new property. He purchased the old poor farm in the city of Spangle at auction--his was the only bid. Fifteen Hog came with the purchase and they were sold to raise capital to improve the property for school use. RECENT YEARS A long way from those early days, UCA graduated 82 Seniors at the end of the 2005-2006 school year. About 265 students attended UCA in 2005-2006. During this notable school year, UCA won the prestigious Academy Award of Excellence for being the top high school in the United States out of some 100 full-program Adventist high schools. STUDENTS' ACTIVITIES Students at UCA have jobs, attend classes, and participate in community service. Elective classes from CAD to metalworking to desktop publishing are available, as well as extracurricular activities such as snow skiing in winter, camping, town trips, banquets, drama club, science club, etc. EXTERNAL SUPPORT Students who attend UCA now have access to possible donations from the UCA Foundation a 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded for the benefit of providing financial support to students.
