The United States House Committee on Financial Services (or '''House Banking Committee''') oversees the entire financial services industry, including the securities, insurance, banking, and housing industries. The Committee also oversees the work of the Federal Reserve , the United States Department Of The Treasury , the U.S. Securities And Exchange Commission , and other financial services regulators. It is chaired by Barney Frank ( D - MA ) and the ranking Republican is Spencer Bachus (R- AL ). SUBCOMMITTEES Subcommittee On Capital Markets, Insurance, And Government-Sponsored Enterprises Jurisdiction The subcommittee watches over the U.S. capital markets, securities and insurance industries and government-sponsored enterprises, such as Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac . It oversees the Securities and Exchange Commission as well as the self-regulatory organizations that police the securities markets. Leadership
Subcommittee On Financial Institutions And Consumer Credit Jurisdiction The subcommittee focuses on banks, depository institutions, deposit insurance, and the overall safety and soundness of the banking system. Leadership
Subcommittee On Housing And Community Opportunity Jurisdiction The subcommittee oversees public and private housing, community development, and the Department Of Housing And Urban Development . The panel has done extensive work to evaluate and form solutions for housing affordability shortages across America. Leadership
Subcommittee On Domestic And International Monetary Policy, Trade, And Technology Jurisdiction The subcommittee focuses on international finance, banking, and monetary organizations, including the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank . The subcommittee is also responsible for issues involving monetary policy, economic stabilization, and trade in financial services. Leadership
Subcommittee On Oversight And Investigations Jurisdiction The subcommittee is charged with oversight of all matters within the jurisdiction of the Committee on Financial Services. Its investigations have ranged from corrupt housing authorities to financial fraud. Leadership
