It was founded in 1977 by former Campaign For Real Ale (CAMRA) Chairman Chris Holmes and their first Pub was The Old King Arms in Newark .

They currently operate 19 pubs or Cafe bar establishments and have a policy of stocking Cask Beer s from regional and Microbreweries . Tynemill also owns and operates the Castle Rock Brewery , a microbrewery located in Nottingham .

Most Tynemill pubs have a ban on Fruit Machines , Background Music and Mobile Phones .
