Information AboutThe One Where No One's Ready |
"The One Where No One's Ready" is the second episode of the third season of the American television Situation Comedy '' Friends '', which aired on NBC on September 26 , 1996 .1 The plot centres on Ross 's ( David Schwimmer ) anxiety as his friends take too long getting ready for a function that evening. The episode was written by Ira Ungerleider and directed by Gail Mancuso . It is one of the few Bottle Episode s of the series; the bulk of the episode takes place on only one set and there are no guest stars, with the exception of two brief cameos. Reaction to the episode is mixed, with some loving it and others hating it. PLOT Ross arrives at Monica's apartment to discover Joey ( Matt LeBlanc ) and Chandler ( Matthew Perry ) are not dressed for a function the group is to attend that evening. Rachel ( Jennifer Aniston ) is not ready either, but she assures Ross she will be once she decides what to wear. Phoebe ( Lisa Kudrow ) arrives and Chandler returns to the room to find Joey sitting in the armchair he was previously using. Monica ( Courteney Cox ) checks her Answering Machine , hearing a message from her ex-boyfriend Richard (a voice cameo by Tom Selleck ). Joey spills Hummus on Phoebe's dress and Chandler and Monica each leave to get dressed. Monica returns and tells the others she left a message on Richard's machine, describing it as "breezy". She plays it, but her friends disagree that it is casual. A second message, from a woman, plays, but the others convince Monica that it is Richard's daughter, Michelle. Chandler coerces Joey into leaving to get dressed, but Joey takes the chair cushions with him. He soon returns, confronting Chandler for hiding his underwear. Rachel still isn't dressed, and Ross shouts at her to find something so they can go. Monica calls Michelle and hangs up, confirming it was her voice. Michelle phones back and tells her she will tell Richard that she used his passcode to play her message. Rachel comes out of her room wearing sweats, telling Ross she won't be going to the event because he humiliated her. Ross apologises to Rachel and asks her forgiveness. On Joey's "advice" she tells him to drink a glass of fat, but forgives him before it touches his lips. Everyone else leaves to get ready, as Monica records a message for Richard apologising for the calls. She accidentally changes his outgoing message, but Ross forces her down to the cab before she can change it. As he and Rachel leave, she tells him she is Going Commando . PRODUCTION The "bottle episode" format of the series was conceived by executive producer Kevin S. Bright as a way of saving money for other episodes by using a single set and no guest stars.2 The success of this episode lead to the format being used at least once per season thereafter, with episodes including " The One With Monica's Thunder " and " The One With The Last Night " being based solely around the six core cast.3 Bright believes these episodes were some of the best of the series.4 RECEPTION '' says it "stands out for the way it realistically portrays how group inertia can slow you down".6 Popular reaction is more positive; the episode appeared on one of the first region 1 "best of" DVD releases7 and it was voted the third most popular episode in an NBC poll in 2004.8 REFERENCES EXTERNAL LINKS |
