The Walt Disney Company , and inspired by
A. A. Milne 's
Winnie-the-Pooh stories. The series first aired from
1988 to
1991 on
ABC . Reruns continued to air on ABC until Fall
2002 and then went on to air on
Disney Channel . But on
September 4 ,
2006 , it left Disney Channel for good and its website and programming has disappeared. Also in
November 2004 , ''The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh'' was removed entirely from
Toon Disney along with other popular Disney animated series. In the UK, the program continues to air daily on the
Playhouse Disney lineup. This show returned to Toon Disney on
January 15 ,
2007 , but left the line up in May 2007. However, Toon Disney is airing the show again.
Prior to this TV series, Disney had produced four Pooh
Short Film s (''
Winnie The Pooh And The Honey Tree '', ''
Winnie The Pooh And The Blustery Day '', ''
Winnie The Pooh And Tigger Too! '' and ''
Winnie The Pooh And A Day For Eeyore ''), one film which combined the first three shorts (''
The Many Adventures Of Winnie The Pooh '') and a TV puppet show (''
Welcome To Pooh Corner '').
In addition to the characters who had already been established in the above media (
Pooh ,
Tigger ,
Piglet ,
Rabbit ,
Eeyore ,
Owl ,
Kanga ,
Roo ,
Christopher Robin and
Gopher ), the TV series introduces a plethora of new characters including Christopher Robin's mother, Owl's cousin Dexter,
Kessie the Bluebird,
Junior Heffalump (and his parents), Skippy the Sheepdog,
Stan Woozle and
Heff Heffalump .
In the television program, Christopher Robin speaks with a distinctly American accent, the first time since the first Pooh short ''
Winnie The Pooh And The Honey Tree ''. In all other previous shorts, he has an English accent.
