The Basics are a band from Melbourne, Australia, formed by Wally De Backer and Kris Schroeder in 2002. HISTORY The Basics were formed after Kris and Wally met at a party in Melbourne {Link without Title} . Initially they played around Melbourne as an acoustic guitar/drums combo, but when they later welcomed Michael Hubbard on electric guitar, Wally told Kris, "I caught you a delicious bass" and the power trio was born. Tim Heath joined the group in June 2004, after Michael decided to pursue his solo career. Dave Bramble joins the band on tour, playing keys, often while sporting a large moustache. The members play:
Their musical style could loosely be described as heavily referencing 60s pop and rock (such as The Beatles , The Beach Boys , The Kinks etc) with elements of Rock 'n' Roll , Reggae and Rhythm And Blues mixed in. Their live performances are well known for their sense of humour and energy. Covers frequently make an appearance from various sources: to date, some of the bands covered have been Cream , The Kinks , The Police , New Kids On The Block and The Coasters (via The Beatles for their cover of Three Cool Cats ). Any resemblance between The Basics and The Thamesmen is a coincidence. And hilarious. DISCOGRAPHY The band released their single Lookin' Over My Shoulder in February 2007. {Link without Title} Their first LP Stand Out/Fit In was released on May 5th, 2007 in CD format and on download services such as Apple's ITunes Music Store . {Link without Title} This album was recorded at the start of 2006 but delayed by production issues. The band are currently working on demos for a new album tentatively titled What We Want, When We Want. The album promises to be more bluesy and will feature several live staples not included on Stand Out/Fit In such as If I was Wrong and My Baby. SEE ALSO
