Refusing to be constrained by archetypal jazz instrumentation and sound, ''Flow'' is Blanchard’s vision of a future where jazz, world music, funk, aural soundscapes and abstraction co-exist. Blanchard's score for " Talk To Me " (2007) will be his 41st film score, for acclaimed director Kasi Lemmon 's film based on the life of radical disc jockey and political activist Petey Greene , played by Don Cheadle . Following on the heels of " Inside Man " by director Spike Lee , in which he called upon the talents of not only his band, but an 80-piece orchestra. The CD ''A Tale of God's Will'' (A Requiem for Katrina) (2007), with bassist Derrick Hodge and Aaron Parks on piano all turn in great performances. Though Blanchard composed and orchestrated much of the recording, other members of his group contributed. Reedman Brice Winston composed “In Time of Need,” an introspective theme that allows him to explore his roots in the questing balladry of John Coltrane and features an outstanding Blanchard trumpet solo.
