The following sortable table lists the 363 Metropolitan Statistical Area s (MSAs) of the United States Of America .¹ The United States Census Bureau defines an MSA as one or more adjacent Counties or County Equivalents that have at least one urban cluster of at least 50,000, plus adjacent territory that has a high degree of social and economic integration with the core as measured by commuting ties. The MSA rank among the 939 Core Based Statistical Area s (CBSAs)The 939 Core Based Statistical Area s (CBSAs) currently defined by the United States Census Bureau include the 363 Metropolitan Statistical Area s (MSAs), which have an urban core population of 50,000 or more, and the 576 Micropolitan Statistical Area s (μSAs), which have an urban core population of 10,000 or more but less than 50,000. of the United States by population as of 2006-07-01 , as estimated by the United States Census Bureau,

The MSA population as of 2006-07-01 , as estimated by the United States Census Bureau,

The MSA population as of 2000-04-01 , as counted by the United States Census 2000 ,
