''Summerland'' was an American Television Series which aired on the now defunct The WB . The series ran from June 1 , 2004 to July 18 , 2005 . CAST
Ava Gregory is a main character on the TV series ''Summerland''. She is believed to be in her mid 30s and is raising her sister's three kids Bradin, Nikki, and Derrick Westerly after their parents' tragic death. She lives in an old beach house with the three kids, her on again off again boyfriend Johnny, her best friend Suzannah and another close friend, Jay. They reside in a small town in California. Ava has her difficulties in life with a stressful job as a fashion designer and with her niece and nephews. Bradin has had many troubles during his late teenage years with girls, sex, drugs, alcohol, and school. Fourteen year old Nikki needs help getting through her parents death and her snoopy behavior. Ten year old Derrick has had the most trouble dealing with his parents death.
In Season 1, Bradin, along with his brother, Derrick, and his sister, Nikki, lose their parents in a car accident. When he and the rest of the Westerly kids move out to Playa Linda, California, he goes through a lot of troubles. He comes home drunk and beats up one of Ava's roommates, Jay Robertson, played by Ryan Kwanten because Bradin saw Jay kissing his surf teacher, Erika Spalding, played by Taylor Cole on the date Bradin and Erika had planned. He gets in a fight with a boy, Tanner, played by Riley Smith, that was harassing Erika. He then meets a deceptive girl named Sarah Borden, played by Sara Paxton, with whom he has Promiscuous Sex . Then, he is pushed into stealing a jet-ski with Sarah, causing him to be arrested by the police, instead of Sarah.
Cameron Bale was born in Playa Linda, he was best friends with Nikki Westerly. Later throughout the season the two became boyfriend and girlfriend, but also they have a on-and-off relationship. Also throughout the season they break up, because they have problems in their life. In the episode Safe House, Cameron mentions that his father Kyle abuses him and smashed his MP3 player, then Cameron tells Nikki and she has to promise not to tell anyone. Then, she told Ava and she gets worried and scared for him, and then she talks to Kyle about his drinking problem. CREW
PREMISE Fashion designer Ava lives in ''Playa Linda'', a n surf shop owner Jay, and her business partner Susannah. Their life, it seems, is perfect. Then, Ava's sister and brother-in-law are killed in an accident, and their three children must make the move from rural Kansas , to Ava's home. Seventeen-year-old Bradin has his own adolescent angst to deal with (in season one he has to deal with his wild girlfriend Sarah ( Sara Paxton ) after having lost his virginity to her), but he does his best to help his younger siblings. Thirteen-year-old Nikki has always adored her aunt but sometimes resents Ava's attempts to fill her late mother's shoes (in season 2 she has to deal with her, her boyfriend and his abusive father). Nine-year-old Derrick has enough on his hands just trying to understand the big issues of life, death and family. Ava ends up turning to her friends for help in raising her new surrogate children: Susannah's level-headedness, Johnny's abilities as a father figure, and Jay's boyishness. And while Nikki begins Puberty , and Derrick deals with the big changes in his life, Bradin is discovering sex and women - particularly in Callie a girl from the same town as him in Kansas. In season 2 Ava begins a relationship with Nikki's principal, Dr. Simon O'Keefe. They eventually got engaged and nearly married, until Nikki spoke up about Ava not loving Simon at the Rehearsal Dinner and everybody decides to deal with their anger differently. Ava talks to Nikki, Johnny "cleans up" with Mona and Bradin sleeps with Callie. Derrick also has a rough time accepting what happened, and basically shuns his aunt and sister. In the back of his mind, he still believes that somehow Ava and Simon will reunite, Though this idea leaves his head after Ava finds drugs in Braiden's jeans. With all of that going on, Nikki is faced with being the most hated girl in Derrick's eyes, something that she never thought would happen. Bradin faces a dilemma with his new girlfriend {Link without Title} . Unfortunately Ava ends up walking in on them having sex, making Callie run off in embarrassment. But while having dinner with Jay's ex-girlfriend Erika it seems there is some intense feelings going on. Johnny has had some luck of his own with his his working partner Mona as them two get together. So Derrick was very happy when Simon came over to help him with his astronomy project while Ava looked over crying at the story Simon told Derrick. HISTORY ''Summerland'' was part of the wave of summer programming that rose after Fox 's 2003 success with '' The O.C. ''. The first season - of 13 episodes - aired from June - August 2004, and was a reasonable success. The series benefited largely from the star appeal: Loughlin's return to television, and Dungey - who had become well-known on J.J. Abrams 's cult series '' Alias ''. Teen star and hearthrob McCartney also launched his major singing career during this time, which helped the show appeal to a younger demographic. Australian soap star Kwanten also helped ratings on the show. However, when the second season began in February 2005, ratings were significantly lower - due possibly in part to the midseason return. In April, after eight episodes had aired, the series was put on hiatus and The WB eventually announced the show's cancellation. The remaining episodes of the season aired in June and July 2005.
