Published in 1945 , ''Stuart Little'' was E. B. White 's first children's story. It is the tale of a young New York er named Stuart Little who had the "shy, pleasant manner of a mouse" and in Garth Williams ' illustrations does look like a mouse. NOTES According to White, the idea for this story came in a dream while he was sleeping on the train. Many people were expecting a second book; however, it was never written. The reason for such an abrupt ending was White's Hypochondria . He thought he was going to die soon, so he ended the book in order to get it published before his death. In 2005 a book was published to celebrate the sixty years of Stuart Little. The book was hardbound. QUOTE "When Mrs. Frederick C. Little's second son arrived, everybody noticed that he was not much bigger than a mouse." ADAPTATIONS
