Silverwood Theme Park is the United States Northwest's largest Theme Park . The park is located in North Idaho , United States near the town of Athol on highway US 95. An average of 5,000 people visit the park every day. Silverwood advertises in all the Northwest States, except California, and in some parts of Canada . Garfield is the official mascot of the park. HISTORY In 1981, Gary Norton purchased the Henley Aerodrome, a small private airport. A small museum and café called the Wingover was added to the airport. Later in 1986, Gary Norton traveled to an auction, and bid on a 1915 steam train against Disney Enterprises. Mr. Norton outbid Disney, and had the train sent to his air port. He then had the idea of building a small theme park and laying down track for the train. The idea was of having a park that had an exhibit of all kinds of historic transportation. The park officially opened in 1987. The park included a few carnival rides, a main street with shops, and the authentic 1915 steam train that traveled in a 30-minute loop around the owner's property. The park has a early 1900's theme. As the years went by, Silverwood expanded by adding more rides and attractions. In later years, the park's popularity soared with the opening of the popular Timber Terror (1996) and Tremors (1999) Wooden Roller Coasters . In 2006 Silverwood introduced Panic Plunge - the 141ft. drop tower. In 2003, Boulder Beach - a 12-acre themed Water Park - opened adjacent to Silverwood Theme Park. Boulder Beach shares its main gate with Silverwood, meaning that visitors to Silverwood also are admitted to Boulder Beach for one price. Boulder Beach includes various water slides, a Wave Pool , and a Lazy River . The addition of this water park proved extremely popular and turned Silverwood into a true multiple-day destination. In 2007, additional water attractions were added. They include: another wave pool, a family slide, and private VIP areas called Cabana Island. 2007 ADMISSION COSTS Admission into the park includes all rides, attractions, and shows.
