Selhurst doesn't cover a large area of Croydon and is often credited as
South Norwood , its much bigger counterpart. Although many people not in the local area would know where Selhurst is, it does hold a nationwide known school called The
BRIT School . The BRIT School is a performing arts school operated by The BRIT foundation, more commonly known for bringing us the
BRIT Awards .
Selhurst is named after the
Anglo Saxon for "dwelling in a wood". Evidence of a Saxon settlement was found when the railways station was built. Later, the land was owned by
Henry VIII .

At 30 Dagnall Park lived the great black composer
Samuel Coleridge-Taylor (1875-1912)
Even though it doesn't cover a large area it has its own train station,
Selhurst Railway Station . Which serves frequent trains to
London Victoria and south of
East Croydon and
West Croydon . Also it provides hourly train services to
London Bridge from West Croydon. Although South Norwood's station
Norwood Junction provides many more services. Selhurst Depot, is a depot for mainly
Southern and
First Capital Connect services but also some
South West Trains and occasionally
Southeastern .
London Buses Route 75 and
London Buses Route 157 both serve the east side of town.
