OPEN EVENTS Single-Handed Dinghy ( Laser ) The competition concluded on September 29, 2000. In the final 2 races held on that day, Ben Ainslie was able to hold off Robert Scheidt's last bid for the title, which had begun the day before, when the Brazilian won the fourth-before-last race and placed fifth in the third-to-last race, bringing the gap between himself and Ainslie to 4 points, the closest thus far.
