Robert Evans (politician)

Evans was educated at local schools before gaining a BEd and MA from London University . He then became a teacher and at the time of his election to the European Parliament, he was head of a Junior School in Hounslow .

He sits with the Socialist Group and sits on the European Parliament 's Committee On Transport And Tourism . He is a substitute for the Committee On Economic And Monetary Affairs , a member of the Delegation for relations with the countries of South Asia and the South Asian Association For Regional Cooperation , and he is also involved with Romania and Moldova . From 1999-2004 he was Vice-Chairman of the Committee on Citizens' Freedoms and Rights, Justice and Home Affairs. Since 2004 he has been Chairman of the European Parliamentary Labour Party .

Evans stood as the Labour Party's candidate in the 2003 Brent East By-election .
