Although Stillwater is the "Nashville" of Red Dirt music, having given birth to the scene and still considered its home by most, many Red Dirt artists have relocated to Texas and elsewhere in recent years. The name Red Dirt comes from the Soil in central Oklahoma. It is an outstanding feature of the region and comes from the large amounts of Iron Oxide found in the soil, which give it the classic red tint. It really captures the essence of the Artist and the Industry. But most of all, the Music! Jazz was born in New Orleans, Blues in Memphis, Country in Nashville, and now, Red Dirt In Cameron University!", Scotty Preston, Program Director, KOLI, The Outlaw "I thought the evening was a lot of fun. It was neat to hear the Red Dirt musicians in the documentary define this style of music. ....I'm wondering if one definition was ever finally, once and for all, stated. .. and how many pages did it fill? My definition for RDM (of which I had none prior to the presentation) ... is somewhat cloudy but would include music that comes from the heart, is expressive of raw emotion, non-pretentious in other words... and reflects the artist's life experiences. ...like a story.. often a heartbreak or a new love.. And too.. there is location. A real RDM is from Oklahoma. Right? Thanks for the great evening! Surely there are more women who would fit into this style out there somewhere!" , Jana Brown, Visual Artist & Educator LIST OF RED DIRT BANDS __NOTOC__ 0-9 A
