''Psychocandy'' is the debut album of the Scottish Alternative band The Jesus And Mary Chain . The LP was released in November 1985 on Blanco Y Negro Records and peaked at number 31 in UK Albums Chart . The band had been signed by the label on the strength of their debut, Slaughter Joe -produced single, "Upside Down" and media attention generated by the band's anarchic gigs. ''Psychocandy'' utilised the then-radical notion of combining simple Pop tunes, à la The Beach Boys , with the searing Guitar Noise more akin to The Velvet Underground , effectively creating the genre of Noise Pop and prefiguring Shoegaze . The album is considered to be a landmark recording, frequently appearing in various "best-ever" album lists, such as placed at number 88 in 2000 ''Q'' Magazine list of the 100 Greatest British Albums Ever. The album includes the singles "Never Understand", "You Trip Me Up" and "Just Like Honey". Following reissue on CD in August 1986, the bonus track "Some Candy Talking", which was originally released on the namesake EP, was included. In 2006, the album was remastered and released in DualDisc format without "Some Candy Talking" to conform with the original playlist. The songs "The Hardest Walk" and "Just Like Honey" were featured on the soundtrack of the films '' Some Kind Of Wonderful '' (1987) and '' Lost In Translation '' (2003), respectively.
