Petero Civoniceva pronounced SIV O NO SEE VAR (born 21 April, 1976 in Suva , Fiji ) is an Fijian- Australia n professional Rugby League player for the Brisbane Broncos club in the National Rugby League (NRL) competition. He has also represented the Queensland Side on several occasions in the annual State Of Origin and is a regular in the Australian National Team . Civoniceva's usual position of choice is at Prop-forward . As a player, he is best known for his reliability and durability.

BRONCOS CAREER

In 1998 , he won the Broncos' rookie of the year award. He has won the club's player of the year award in 2004 and 2006 . In round 8 of NRL Season 2007 , Civoniceva played his 200th game for the Brisbane club http://www.nrl.com/Clubs/Broncos/BroncosNewsArticle/tabid/104/NewsId/4850/Default.aspx], becoming only the eighth player to do so.

During the Broncos v Tigers game on 25/6/07, he blew up against a couple of Tigers defenders, causing a brawl 13 minutes from full time. In doing so he was the first Bronco to be sin binned since 2003 , when he was sin-binned in a match against the Dragons .

CONTRACT FOR 2008 SEASON

Petero Civoniceva's Brisbane contract is up at the end of the current 2007 season. 1 Civoniceva has signed to play for the Penrith Panthers for the 2008 season onwards. 2 The deal is for 2 years with an option for a third and is believed to be worth $370,000 a year. 3

Penrith have been able to fit Civoniceva under their salary cap due to the loss of key players such as Craig Gower , Joel Clinton and Peter Wallace at the end of the 2007 season.

Civoniceva was waiting to see whether he can play another season of representative football. 4

This move has been seen by some to be motivated by money, 5 however the move to New South Wales and continuing playing in the NRL rather than in England does allow Civoniceva to continue to represent both Australia and Queensland . 6

The Broncos decision to withdraw the contract to the Prop was due to Salary Cap constrictions, and has caused debate about the Brisbane club and where Civoniceva will play his Football next year. 7

Civoniceva had also been linked to Harlequins RL , the Bradford Bulls , Wigan Warriors and the French team Catalans Dragons in the European Super League.

He had been linked with a move to England with Hull FC , but they denied making Civoniceva an offer. 8 9 10

The test prop had also been linked to the Sydney Roosters but it seems unlikely that they could fit him under their salary cap, given that they have signed fellow Australian test front rower Mark O'Meley for 2008.
