The Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education is located in Stillwater, Oklahoma . Originally known as the Oklahoma Department of Vocational and Technical Education, it oversees a statewide system of career and technology education. The system comprises 29 technology center districts, 400 comprehensive school districts, 23 skill centers and three juvenile facilities. CareerTech is governed by the State Board of Career and Technology Education. CareerTech works with the Oklahoma State Department of Education and the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education . Dr. Phil Berkenbile serves as the Director of the CareerTech system. FY 2006 had a high school enrollment of 16,143 students in full time programs. Snead's study also said graduates of CareerTech add about $2 billion to the Oklahoma economy. The income of CareerTech graduates could be expected to grow about 1.25 percent per year compared to a 0.25 percent annual growth for high school graduates without further education.
